A long time ago, people had to visit the offices of the
registrar of motors vehicles (or some other office) to renew their Kenya
driving licenses. It was always a time-consuming and tiring exercise. You could
easily end up spending two whole days, just to get your Kenya driving license
renewed. That is history now. Today, it is possible to renew your Kenya driving
license from the convenience of your home/office, or from the convenience of
the cyber café downstairs.
To renew the Kenya driving license online, you just need to
follow these 4 simple steps:
- Go to the eCitizen portal, which prides itself as the ‘gateway to all government services’ and which is the website where you can renew your Kenyan driving license. The address for the Kenya eCitizen portal is ecitizen.go.ke. When you type ecitizen.go.ke into your browser, you are taken straight to the Kenya eCitizen portal.
- When you get to the Kenya eCitizen portal, click on the ‘Services’ link from the main menu at the top. Then, from the ‘All Services’ list/column on the left hand side of the screen, click on the ‘Driving’ link (it is the fourth link on that list, I think).
- When you click on the ‘Driving’ link, a screen with various NTSA -- National Transport and Safety Authority – services offered via eCitizen will appear. From that screen, click on the ‘Apply Now’ link under ‘Driving License Renewal’.
- After clicking on the 'Apply now' link, you will be taken to a screen where you will be required to read the terms and conditions governing Kenya driving licenses issuance and Kenya driving licenses renewal. Then click on the ‘Apply Now’ button at the bottom of that page. Thereafter, in the screen you are taken to, log into eCitizen by entering your ID number or email address and password. If you don’t have a NTSA Kenya account, click on the ‘Create an account’ link, create the account, then sign in. After signing in, fill in the required information, and make the necessary payment, to complete your Kenya driving license online renewal.
